    Genomics and computational biology are now at the center of biomedical research. These disciplines take a holistic approach to ask about the origins, functions, and interactions of whole systems, using both experimental and theoretical work. The first week involves lab safety training, learning to keep a lab notebook, participating in a sequence of group Genomics labs in the mornings, Computational labs in the afternoons, and Genomics lectures that will correspond with both the Genomics & Computational Biology labs.

    This course will assess the relationships among sequence, structure, and function in complex biological networks as well as progress in realistic modeling of quantitative, comprehensive, functional genomics analyses. Exercises will include algorithmic, statistical, database, and simulation approaches and practical applications to medicine, biotechnology, drug discovery, and genetic engineering. The book then covers case studies in the genomic data analysis and bioinformatics area, often part of the early stages of a life science discovery pipeline.
